Tea Ceremony under the plum blossoms in Kitano Tenmangu shrine

The big tea ceremony is held under the full blooming plum blossoms in February 25th every year in Kitano Tenmangu shrine. The beautiful Geiko and Maiko serve us Matcha.

More guests than usual years including foreign tourists seemed visiting in 25th February 2016.

It’s famous tea ceremony in Japan

梅花祭

The guests were lining in front of the gate of the tea room at the start time 10:00am.
We had to wait for about 20 minutes to enter. I think it’s better to keep warm outside because it’s still cold even the plum blossoms are blooming.

This tea ceremony seems very famous in Japan because a lot of tourists having Kyoto souvenirs are also lining.
Kitano tenmangu tea ceremony is on TV news every year in Japan.

Of course, we saw some TV stations were taking video of Geiko and Maiko this year, too.

The bright tea ceremony outside

matcha and sweets of plum blossom

We have to choose one tea room from outside or inside tatami room. Maybe outside is easier to take photos.

The Japanese fresh sweets were made by Tsuruya Yoshinobu. We received them before sitting on the chair casually.

Japanese dried sweets

This is one more dried sweets shaped pretty plum blossoms.

We have to refrain from too much taking photos or videos even outside, because it’s tea ceremony.

I’m sorry I can’t tell you how beautiful they were, but kimono and hair styles of Geiko and Maiko were gorgeous.

I have noticed that there are more Geiko and Maiko than I’ve expected were in Kamishichiken area. I have never seen them in the daytime around Kamishichiken usually.

The Table and chair style tea ceremony outside

tea ceremony outside

The table and chair style tea ceremony was held outside. The table is called “chishin shelf” which 15th grand master of Urasenke loves.

We can use this shelf only for light tea, so often see them in the casual tea ceremony outside.

It’s more simple and modern design than other shelves like “Shunju-“ or “Misono” shelves which has watermarks under.

The fresh water container and red tea bowl were shining on the table.

Even tea ceremony outside, we can see some different kind of shelves. I’m always looking forward to seeing what kind of utensils are used.

Although it was really short time to sit on the chair, we enjoyed seeing gorgeous Maiko and Geiko under the plum blossoms.
